    Characteristics: 

    Succulent plant 10-15 m tall, with a dense prickled trunk with succulent heart-shaped leaves. The branches, which are rare, are always ascendent and up to 2 m.

    The small green flowers are gender differenciated and have 2 persistent sepals and 4 free petals. They appear into inflorescences at the end of the stems.

    Alluaudia ascendens is used in gardening for decoration purposes.

    History and curiosities: 

    The scientific name de la planta, Alluaudia ascendens, consists of the genus name Alluaudia, dedicated to the French entomologist Charles Alluaud (1861-1949), and the Latin term ascendens, “upward”, in allusion to the upward straight form always presented by the ramifications.

    It is endemic to Madagascar.
